'85 K100 Gas Leak at electronics plug

Hi. Looking to Macgyver my gasoline leak from the electronics connection in the bottom of the K100 gas tank. There is a slow leak and the smell is bad for the house. The electronics and electrical work fine but fuel is oozing from the connection, dripping on the engine and bothering everyone.

You want to Macgyver a fuel leak that leaks gas onto the top of your hot engine?????

There is supposed to be an O-ring seal between the fuel sender plate and the gas tank.
    62 16 1 459 608 GASKET RING $5.61

If it is actually leaking through the electrical connections on the plate, you could replace it with a used sending unit or get creative with some fuel proof epoxy.

Thanks. I will order the gasket. It is most likely the problem, otherwise will look to epoxy the wiring in place.

It would be very useful if sy308moa (real name?) could give us the YEAR of their K100.. there were two different tank feed-throughs used on K bikes.

The early (83-85 model years, which have an O ring IIRC) and the later 86 and newer that used some sort of gasket (IIRC). They are completely different, located in different spots in the tanks, and what fixes one won't fix the other.

sy308moa - please also read the stickies. It's useful if both year/model are included in the thread title, due to changes exactly like this.

Thank you. The bike in question is an early one, MY 1985 purchased in 1984 (by me original owner). Is this then still repairable???

    See: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...38&hg=16&fg=11

Hopefully all you need is the sealing ring PN-6. I don't know if the actual level sensor/feed-through is still available. BTDT on my '85 K100RT - the tank started dribbling, replacing the seal fixed it.

If you poke around the REALOEM site a bit, they also show a mechanical float assembly for your bike. That is WRONG. There was no mechanical float - the listing is in error.

And I've added the year to your thread title since as we've seen, it's significant.
