Eating on the cheap... what to bring?

What to bring-- NOTHING- they have stores there that it will be FRESH, and just as cheap as buying at home. Saves a ton of packing space.

I never pack food. I shop at the local market and buy there; much cheaper and fresher. A foot long sub will feed me for two days and it is $5.00

Beer on the other hand is a different story.

So here is the bottom line... the cheaper I can keep this trip, the more my wife will be agreeable to me doing more of them. I'm sure others out there have heard this as well "How much are you spending on this trip just for you??" (And yes, I know, the same can be said from husbands to wives that are going.)

So I am looking at what to do to cut down where ever possible, and now I'm at the food portion. I figure I can bring the following:

• trail mix
• instant oatmeal
• canned tuna
• powdered drink mix
• beef jerky

Any other thoughts? I don't have any kind of jet boil so I will be using hot water for tea from the coffee station I guess.

Coffee is free in the beer tent, if I remember correctly. You'll probably get a free coffee cup at registration.
Sardines and a tube of saltines from home.
Soup: eat right from the can with saltines, as the soup is always warm enough this time of year.
Raisins
Plastic jar of peanuts (w/banana)
Peanut butter with saltines
water bottle

Me and my riding partner eat out of grocery stores and it keeps the costs down. I guessing my biggest expense is going to be food. We live 350 miles from the rally so gas isn't going to be a big expense and I am riding my airhead. Of course I will check out the fare at the rally too. I did buy some potassium tablets as when i lose fluids I tent to cramp and bananas dont have that much of anything in them. A bell pepper has a whole lot more potassium than a banana.

That was one of the best things about last year's rally. THE BEER. It was good and it was cheap.

Come by my tent, you can use my Jetboil or any other provisions You might need I have. We are not taking much but always have the stove in case for coffee.

What time is breakfast? I take my coffee black and eggs over easy.

Starting when you get home from the rally start puting $20 a week in a envelope and by next year you will have a nice littel bundle

+1 and some of the freeze dried stuff is excellent too. Jetboil is painless for hot water, fast and packs small. And GORP. Gotta have GORP.

Tell your wife it isn't going to cost hardly anything extra to eat at the rally. After all, you have to buy food from a grocery store when you eat at home don't you? Or is it free?

Locally, Walmart? I'd rather die from starvation than patronize Walmart. Find a farmer's market if you want local. The farmer gets all the money rather than 7 cents on the dollar.

Oh come on, don't make it sound like WalMart just steals their produce. They do get paid. If they had a better outlet they'd sell it there.

If you stop by the Hospitality Booth (in the MOA Building) you can pick up a coupon book from local businesses in Sedalia. The book and coupons are being printed just for us, so maybe you can save a buck or two.

I'm with you on that rant, though only the mega-monoculture-farmers get that money, not the local farmers market guys.

I'll eat just like I do at home, the Mickey D's Dollar Menu. A single guy's alternative to slaving in front of a hot microwave oven.
Remember, the cheapest part on a BMW, the nut that attaches the handlebars to the saddle.

Sorry, I just said I always have it with me, I don't want to fire it up if I don't have to. (have you priced the fuel?) I'm eating with my wife on this trip, I will not be forcing her to eat my cooking, besides, she has all the money.
