    better brakes

    What is the best way to get better stopping power out of the front brakes on my 1979 dual disc R100T.

    First question: The '79 RT has the ATE swinging calipers -- have they been properly adjusted on the eccentric bolts?

    Second question: How old are the brake pads? originals?

    My now sold 78 RS had the following done to it. It made a big difference, but still not up to modern bike standards. Semi-floating rotors, ceramic brake pads, stainless steel brake lines. Others may have some good ideas too, good luck.

    first is to rememeber, that these old airheads dont have brakes, the have speed modulators

    but I agree 100% with what toooldtocare says ^^^. Those same improvements made a big difference in my 78 r80

    Precise adjustment and new factory pads made all the difference on my 79 RS. Stop a lot faster than any cage except mayby a Cobra/Porsche/Ferrari.

    Buy a used K-100 fork, triple clamps, wheel, brakes and such and swap these for the stock items. Alternatively, put an R-100R front end on it. No shortage of brakes here, and you get the good triple clamps with less offset, meaning all that high speed weaving in corners goes away even on the stock rear shocks. Less offset means more trail, and that is what the bike wants.
    Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

    I have the same issue with my '79RT so I'll look into switching out the front forks if it's within my limited budget!

    I upgraded my /7 from single to dual ATE brakes a couple of years back (including stainless lines), and was still not quite where I wanted to be in terms of stopping power. I ended up switching from stock rotors/EBC pads to EBC floating rotors and new EBC pads to match. I am pretty happy with the results.
