    1100RT vibration Q

Out for a cruise on the slab this morning on my 2000 R1100 RT and kinda focused on my driving zen and traffic etc, and suddenly realized both feet were seriously numb, "asleep." And my hands soon to follow. Without really noticing an abrupt change there was a buzz in the bars and mostly the foot pegs. Saddle a bit less. Yesterday and for the first 20 minutes of today's ride the bike was smooth as glass.

There's a genuine, not imaginary vibration at all rpms (above 3k), all gears.

After i got in the garage a quick walk-around revealed no parts falling off. Temp on the RID is normal.

Haven't checked oil level since I parked, nor looked for drips. Back in a few minutes.

    Your thoughts?

If it happens when idling / standing still it has to be the engine. Can you put it on the center stand to check?
If not, then anything in the drivetrain, wheels, tires.

    your opinion goes here

sure. thanx for the idea. i'm really just curious. "something" is obviously haywire and I'll find out when the tech gets to it, but in the meantime let's opine!

    rough idle

    oil level normal.

but on the c stand it's "rough" ...shakey, vibration-ey at idle and up thru about 3K. seemed useless to rev it higher.

Check the throttle cables to ensure they are seated in the ferrules. Also check that a small stone did not become lodged between the cable and a crank pulley.

    wish

Thanx, Mark. From your keyboard to god's screen!

I don't think I want to take off the body work myself and look, ...but I might. It's kind of a little bit of a nuisance to ride the machine w/o the body work, but it'd save them a little time at the shop.

+1 on the small stone caught in the throttle cable pulley(s). I had this happen several times and the symptoms are very close to what the OP described. Given the fact that nothing was touched and the bike was running fine and then suddenly starts to have a weird vibration above idle?

I've found small pebbles causing this problem not once, but three times. It is common and very easy to fix once the tupperware is off and you can get at the throttle bodies that is!
