I think it is time for a battery for my 550, i did a google search and found many. Do you need to get it from Garmin or is aftermarket ok? Also the little screw that holds the latch lid down seems to be missing, is it really needed?

The 550 has a habit of loosening its battery connection due to the weak spring. Take the back off and put som more bend in the spring and see if your currnt one works OK then. I've had to do this simple "fix" to 2 units that kept lossing power on modest road bumps...
