    Adding running lights & Hyperlites?

I've been searching for threads on adding auxiliary lights to an F650GS (mine is 2010), and would be grateful for any leads. Two dealers have told me that they have not yet added either running lights or Hyperlites (etc) to this model, citing a weak alternator and difficulties with the CANbus as reasons to hesitate. I'm looking for more visibility in an urban environment (South Florida). Suggestions appreciated.

Lots of good LED lights now available that rival the output of traditional lights with very low power draw. I have a pair of Vision X solstice LEDs on my F800GS, the same lights that are now packaged as a kit from Twisted Throttle as the Denali lights. They are very bright and draw only 10w each.

As for connecting to the Canbus, it's not such a big deal. You just need to power a relay off of the bikes system from your choice of the headlight low or high beam or the parking light. Another option is to use the GPS power plug that is found near the battery. The main power for the acessory lights is then drawn from a fused circuit direct from the battery. The switching circuit of the relay draws such a tiny amount of power that it does not trip the Canbus. If your planning to add a few powered accessories, then an add on fuse block such as the Centech or the Fuzeblock are a good way to go.

I can't wait to retire and have a fixed income. The one I have now is always broke.

P3s from Skeen design work very good and are brighter then Hyperlites... I have compared them side by side... lots of good choices for the front... i went with a brand that helps light up the road plus visibility... no problems with alternator or canabus...

The Skene stuff is good gear for front or back and I agree they're brighteer than hyperlights.

I also run the Solstice/Denali lights- very low current draw.

There is no reason you can'tfit either or both to your bike. What you shouldn't do is a set of 55W halogens up front- that type of current draw should be avoided.

    Thanks

Thanks to all for the advice and encouragement about adding aux lights; I see that the job is not so difficult, after all.

    Happy riding,
