    Help...flasher unit

The PO of my 07 Dakar put in some kind of aftermarket signal flasher...the farkle from hell! It malfunctions constantly. Anyway the PO is sure that he left the original flasher in the bike, I have looked in the parts fiche, maintenance manual but cannot find an actual picture of what the OEM flasher unit looks like or where it is located by the steering head....aaargh!
Here is a photo of the aftermarket flasher unit, it has a plug in both ends with wires plugged in.

Here is a photo of where the flasher is supposed to be...does anyone see it?

Have you been to a dealer or shop that does BMW work. They could look and identify your problem.

Well, at $110.00/hr for shop time I figured replacing a simple flasher relay was well within my abilities.

I was going to order a OEM flasher but thought the old one was still there...trouble is I cannot identify what the old one looks like or where it is exactly located in that very small space. I have yet to find a diagram, photo or anything that identifies the OEM flasher location or what it looks like. I do have a full shop manual but the photo in it shows the flasher unit is in the lower row of relays in between the wiring plug ins, mine does not look like that.
Another diagram shows the flasher unit in the upper right hand corner...grrrrr. This should be so damn simple.
Never...ever use an aftermarket signal minder flasher unit, this one is a POS. In even light rain my signal lights come on all by themselves and I cannot stop them...this is dangerous as hell.
    Some farkles should never exist.

My '01 GS is a bit different but it should be one of the two to the right of the orange plug. It should be part number 61 11 7 661 819. That looks like a Kissan Signal Minder you have now.

That is the same part number I found for my 650, but none of the numbers on the relays match that number.
Are they that small? In the photos in the maintenance manual the flasher looks like a block that would occupy that entire space where the two smaller relays are.

Yes, it is a Kissan signal minder, can't wait to get rid of it.

I've dealt with a couple of signalminders on bikes other than the F650. As I recall the original flasher relay is removed so the signalminder wiring harness can access the bike's wiring.

This is what confuses me...if the original relay has been removed...then where was it?
There are no empty slots in my relay tray and none of the relays that are there do not appear to be signal relays.

    Got it all figured out.
My Dakar has the emergency flasher option. The two relays you see on the bottom row between the wiring looms are for the emergency flashers, the actual signal flasher unit would sit on top, I still have not seen a photo of what the OEM flasher in this case looks like.
Anyway, I used the old 2 pin plug from the signal minder unit and put spade type connectors on it and used these to plug into a generic flasher unit I bought at the auto parts store.
Works very well now, nice to have normal signal lights.
