    oil filter wrench for r1200rt

    do I need special wrench for the oil filter on my 2011 r1200rt, I have a wrench for a 2001 k1200lt. but it does not seem to work on my r1200rt

    +1 for the Max BMW wrench. They will sell you the BMW OEM oil wrench (at the typical BMW OEM price). But they also sell their own branded wrench for a fraction the cost. Still a bit pricey for a %$#^ oil filter wrench, but it works great and it's better than 'full price'.

    Beemerboneyard.com offers a good filter wrench for the 12RT, in addition to filters and even oil.

    There are a number of different size filters. My BMW filter wrench would not fit my Triumph's oil filter. I bought a proper size at the Honda store.

    Why yes, the R1200 filter is a completely different filter than the previous filters and the design for removal is completely changed, too.

    If the filter is the same as that for the R1200GS, K&N offers one (KN-164) with a 17mm nut as part of the filter housing.
