    Useful or Trash?

More than one person has told me not to throw anything out that came with my R75/5, but I have two items that I could use some opinion on.

Either way, I'm not going to use these but perhaps its worth me looking for someone who could use them rather than tossing them.

    The items are:

This fairing, no notable markings or branding, with a pretty poor fiberglass fix job on the crack visible here...

    Saddlebags, in very poor shape....

The PO said he got these when he purchased the bike, in 72.

Hold on to them if you have the space. I would bet someone out there is looking for exactly what you have.

No idea on values , but if you watch the old school & flea market sections of this forum and ADV rider i would bet you can pocket some cash easily.

They don't make stuff like that any longer and there is a project out there longing for just what you have.

    Agree!

Unless you're dying for space to store'em, you need to keep'em and sell. The fairing is a Wixom, bags I'm not sure? Fairing is 150$ even cracked, bags maybe 100+$, more with all the mounts for'em imo. They should sell, so use the classifieds. Randy

Yes. An aftermarket fairing, but keep it. Til you find the best use.
The BMW bags, well, those are oem. Hold on to them. If you decide not to use either sell, or let someone have them what will put them to good use. Otherwise, just let them sit on the shelf til the time comes around.

Thanks folks... I'm admittedly surprised, but I'll hang on to them. I should find the luggage rack I have as well.

The bags appear to be Enduros, at least that's what we came up with when similar ones were shown in the past:

I think the handlebar fairing is a Flanders. I have a Wixom Ranger fairing on my R69S and a friend bought a similar looking fairing at one of Vech's rallys about 3 years ago. Duane has some old brochures on his website:

From my R75/5 project: Threw away a set of Japanese side cases that had what looked like tractor trailer lights mtd from the factory. Threw away the 175# frames(not OEM) that held them.
Sold the decent vintage topcase -was hard plastic/black.
Still wishing it would go away:rear luggage rack, chrome(is decent with one minor repair) with teak wood slats where the stuff would sit.
Still wishing it would go away: one Wndjammer Fairing in nice shape but aged, black with white stripes & HL unit, was sold & boxed in a huge box but never picked up. Going soon: junks exhaust systems from both R75/5's that are rusted away but kept for some strange reason I could never explain.
Going later: the R75/5, identical, dead bike that I bought the same day, another seller, for whats turned out to be no useful purpose.

    umm, no.
BMW did not make bags for the /2 or /5 vintage bikes. those are either Wixoms or Kravens, i believe. regardless, yeah, depending upon condition, they might be worth some coin.

Who put the BMW logo on them? I thought I saw a BMW badge on them.
Could have been the rider, with some glue.

    True.
But, BMW does not make a lot of things. They subcontract out, for instance the F800 motor has cast into the case BMW, but it's made by Rotax in Austria for BMW. So would you consider that oem?

a motor is pretty much central and integral to the bike. bags and fairing (during this time period) were not.
could they be purchased from the dealer? sure. were they OEM items? not really.

The bags look like Enduro, the fairing, my first guess was Avon, but I have been wrong before. I have gotten rid of a couple of fairings, a Luftmeister, and a Vetter. My experience is that it is a very soft market for used fairings; I wound up giving away the Lufty, and getting $20 for the Vetter. But I like the Enduro bags!
