    K1200gt panner cover

Does anyone have experience taking apart the panner painted cover from it's inner section. I just got this bike and someone pushed in one of the latches that connect and lock the coverto the black back shell. Now it is rattling around in between the two parts. I would like to get the two apart and get the part out and hopefully fix it.

There has been some discussions in the Hexhead forum, same system cases.

I tried a few years ago on a already damaged friends junked case and had the big spring unwind...It wasn't pretty!

I really need to get the painted lid separated from it's inner structure. One of the metal lock latches got pushed inside and is rattling around.

Not really familiar with K1200GT cases exactly, but if they are like all other system cases, you can drill out the rivets in the hinges to separate the lid from the case. Use small screws to put them back together.
I may be totally off here...

Mike, he is trying to seperate the outer painted skin from the liner...these cases are diff from the pre 2005 black cases.

    jp,

Just went out to my parts pile and found two lids donated by friends that had insurance repalcements. I tried to seperate the skin from the liner. Short of going all HULK on it, I believe it is epoxied together.

There are no screws ,even behind the gasket, like the mounting half contains. I am guessing the round indent in the center of the case is a centering glue point. You can get a gap near the hinges , but that top edge away from hinges is tight and is not letting go. I think it would break something like the painted section trying to pry any harder than I just did.

I didn't try any harder as these still are OK if sanded and repainted.
Sorry,I tried ... any way you can retrieve that latch bar thru the hole and epoxy it back in place?
