    child motorcycle harness?

Hello everyone. My son is 8 and I would like to take him on the bike this year. I been looking at child harness on-line. Has any one used one before. I found one place, Its called a Back Riders Belt. the price is $260.00. The price is not the problem. Just need to know if anyone has info or has used one before. Thanks

I looked at the picture on the Back Rider belt web site. The first thought was what happens if you go down? The child is secured to you it seems. I think this risky. I may be missing something here about the design though. Some other company makes something with handles for a child to hold. Would a top bag with a back rest to offer some more support be another solution?

    Riding with kids

I started taking my daughters on trips when they were that age.

The old /5 seat had a rail they could hold on to in addition to me. The special belt with hand grips posted earlier would have been an improvement.

They were always great about hanging on except when they would fall asleep. You could tell when their helmet started hitting your back regularly. I always had some kind of backrest on my airheads.

Those were days before reliable electric communications, so we devised a system of physical taps (or punches) to communicate. If I patted their leg, they would respond that they were OK. A couple of kidney punches to dad meant a potty stop was needed.

Be sure to take gear to keep them warm and dry in case of weather change.

We continued these dad/daughter trips until they were in their 40's As they got older we went from day/overnight to weekend to week to 10 days. Alas all things must come to an end.

I'm 66 and now have a K1200RS, so other than my grandson who finished his enlistment in the USMC, I am no longer taking grandkids on rides/trips. Saw a K1200RS with a huge sidecar the other day and it made me wonder...

It is a wonderful way to bond with your kids and creates a great one on one experience. Enjoy and don't worry too much.
