2004 BMW R1150RT
This is the key fob I use for my R1100RT. The fob will detach a ring or rings through spring loaded ball bearings that are pretty tough. When I need the ignition, I detach it and the rest go in my pocket. One ring has the bike key, one ring has the house keys, and I have another ring for the car.

This BMW product works very for me. I bought it because of the same issue.
I have this - however, shipping $$ from the UK a bit steep.

Thanks for the replies all! I'm getting one of the stick on pads for the top of the triple clamp. Afraid that keeping track of multiple/detachable key chains is likely too much for my feeble brain and would lead to being locked out of the house at some point!

Whe I bought my 1978 BMW R100/7 in 1979 I kept the key in the ignition. I don't think I ever removed it until I sold it in 2010. Maybe I live in a safer neighborhood....or the thieves around here don't like BMW's!

I got this nifty fob off of ebay.

I use a short piece of leather shoe lace as the key chain, which does not scratch the bike. I keep the luggage and other keys on a separate keychain in my pocket.
I just flip my house key and alarm device forward after I insert the ignition key. This prevents the scratches. Simple fix![]()

I use a red ball bungie attached to my solo key. Easy to find if it gets separated from me! You know those little ball bungies folks tie tarps down with. Mine is red. I actually rarely take the key from its ignition, except for gas cap opening. This GSA is Sooooo BIG, few folks can even mount it, much less find the key

Experience IS NOT the best teacher! Someone else's experience is the best teacher.
I use this idea from Mark on another website. It works great for me and my key and fob lay flat in my pocket.
