    Windshield recommendations needed

I just purchased my first BMW, a 2012 F650GS and need some recommendations for a windshield and a rear case and/or a tail bag. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum. Can't help on the windshield but with the popularity of that bike, I'm sure you'll get some help. Gary

    Here's 3+ years of experience/ photos/ recommendations:

(almost anything that fits the 8GS also works on the 658GS)

It all depends on your personal "ergonomics" (height, etc), helmet type,
    preferred riding position, etc.

    Enjoy!

i have 3 different height Aeroflow touring shields, a Madstad, a CalSci and a Cee Bailey. the Aeroflow with the optional AeroGards, Duct Deflectors, LegGards and HandGards offers the absolute best weather protection. although i find it to be a bit noisy, for cold/rainy riding it can't be beat. this is what i use for late fall/winter riding

the MadStad is the quietest of the windshields i have tried and with the winglets it offers very good weather protection, although not quite as good as the Aeroflow. it is also the ugliest. it is a good all around windshield and if i had to choose only one this would be it.

the CalSci is a very good looking windshield, it looks like it belongs on the bike. it is slightly noisier then the MadStad. it does not offer the amount of weather protection the AeroFlow or the MadStad with the winglets offer. overall for the price it is a good value, it compliments the look of the F650 and works well.

the Cee Bailey is the cheapest of the windshields i have tried but it works fairly well. it is about the same as the CalSci as far as noise goes but it is also the narrowest of the bunch so it doesn't offer much weather protection. i think it would work well in warm/hot climates or for use in the summer months.

i did not comment on wind buffeting as this is very subjective. what works great for me might not work for someone else. i will say that i can't ride at speed with the visor on my helmet open for any length of time no matter which of the windshields i use.

i found the customer service from Aeroflow, MadStad and CalSci to be great. i spoke to Paige at Aeroflow numerous times via e-mail and phone calls and he is knowledgeable and helpful.

when my bike fell over and broke the MadStad windshield i spoke to Patty at MadStad and they not only shipped me a new windshield right away they also gave me a discount on it.

the folks at CalSci made me a custom height windshield and shipped it within an hour of placing my order.

i can't really comment on the customer service from Cee Baileys as my only dealing with them was when i placed my order. they did take and process the order in a timely manor.

Also, I'm looking for hand guards and a rear case if anyone has suggestions for a good source.
I went through a couple and settled on the Aeroflow, which I like a lot.

    Windshield

wife and I have AeroFlow with AeroFlow attached winglet gizmos. The windshields work very well. The winglet things also do a good job, but, like our AeroFlow headlight protectors, the adhesive 3M attachments came off. Solution was to replace the attachment stuff with greater surface area of the stuff on the air duct things and to drill holes through both windshield and duct and to zip tie them together. After repeated episodes we gave up on the headlight guards and switched to mechanically fastened TourATech variants which have been trouble free. AeroFlow headlight guards on three of our other bikes also failed but we rate their windshields as excellent.

I have the wunderlich touring screen http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/mot...e/8110157.html and a coocase s48 with the light kit. http://www.coocase.com/showcase/s48_astra.html

Like them both but the coocase if bigger than most people want. I got it because it was the only one I could find that would hold both my wife's and my helmet.
