    Question Paralever sidestand/kickstand ?

The customization and improving on a great machine continues. I need help. Talking about my 92 R100R, sidestand modification.

Okay the design of putting our suicide sidestand on the crash bar makes no sense to me. I don't like the crash bar to begin with and I removed it. Okay, now where does one add a sidestand? I have a Brown sidestand, which I love on 86, but it isn't working "just" right on the 92. I had it mounted (on the front motormount with clamp to frame), it works in emergencies, because it flexes and I have to readjust it periodically, but I want to work like on my 86.

I can't be the only Paralever rider out there that has this issue. Help a brother out. What have you devised, figured out, come up with???? Let her ripp...

Another question: Are the 92 R100R and Mystic frames the same? Reason I am wondering is because BMW does make good sidestand for the Mystic that looks like it will work (at least on the Max Fiche) and I do know that the frame numbers are different (per Max Fiche). But maybe somebody can set me straight..... Mystic owners: how do you like your sidestand????

I have mine mounted on the rear engine motor mount bolt. Same on my now sold 95RT and 88RS. I also modified the bracket so it does not use the exhaust for support. I posted it somewhere a few weeks ago.

Go here http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57994 This is my 78RS, but I had the same design on my two mono-shock bikes too. They work better because you can adjust the shift linkage to clear the bolt. Right now I am looking for a button head bolt to replace the center one so the correct shifter can be used.

    Tooldtocare:

I have seen your post and like your solution very much. It is really neat, but it will not work on the Paralever design... I tried (had it mocked up and all, but no go). I already adjusted the shifter bracket to get my foot in there, but it still does not give me clearance. Even thought about moving the whole design to the other side of the frame or designing a different bracket of some kind.... I am stuck.... I can't see myself out of this.... simply!!!!

    My last option/solution is:

I am going to try a 2 bracket design: one on the frame going down and one on the muffler going up with a piece of steel inbetween to mount the forward bolt of the brown stand to it; the rear will mount to the front motor mount. That should reduce the need to adjust it and disallow the bracket to flex under weight....

But I am trying to "Simplfy" someone has this worked out in Airhead land....

I don't know why it won't work. I had the same set up on my 95 R100RT and 88 R100RS. All I had to do was adjust the shifter a bit and remember to put the Brown down first befor the center stand, and retract the center stand first before putting the Brown up. With button head bolts for the center bolt there is no need to adjust anything. The bracket is inside the stand so it does not add any to the width. The bracket does not go all the way to the mounting bolt, I stopped it just past the middle bolt.

Toooldtocare: Sadly the R100R Paralever Airheads have a different shifting mechanism, which is in the way for the "traditional" brown set up. It is either too far forward or back or get's in the way of the shifting mechanism/footpeg. I did not believe it either, but I have confirmed it due to trying it every way possible. Your 88RS is identical to my 86RS and my 92 R is a paralever setup not a monolever set up, changing the shifting mechanism. I want to say that your 95 RT is still in the monolever family. Thank you for all your help.

Did not know the paralever made a difference. I never had one, although I did a 2k mile ride on a GS once. But, now that you mention it, I rember looking at a GS a couple of years ago that I wanted to buy and wondered if it would fit.
