BMW actually would have done durability testing with emissions checks at least at the beginning and end of their test cycle. This would have been done with the specified oil, following the specified maintenance schedule to show that the motorcycles met the lifetime emissions requirements for both EPA and CARB. I don't know what the required emissions life for our bikes was, but I'm sure many of our bikes have exceeded it in both mileage and age.
