Salty Fog Riders Rally 2011: The Report

Stop at one of the scenic look offs. As a point of interest, and as important info for those travelling the trail, Parks Canada DOES require the purchase of a group permit to stop at these pull offs. AND there can be a fine if stopped without a permit. We are now negotiating a modest group rate (ie $6 per vehicle). Anyway, here we are stopped at a pull off.

Bob; I like the idea of taking off a bag & opening a tool roll for the appearance of mechanical issue/repair. Small effort to save $6 times 10 to 12 bikes. I had to adjust that special issue rear luggage support system somewhere anyway!

My understanding is that a malfunction of one does not usually require a large support group However, I think that something can be arranged. The folks over at the Motorcyclist Guide To Nova Scotia have helped us get in touch with some park resources. Should be able to work something out. But just in case, we may require your assistance to have strategic mechanical issues.

Promise: by Saturday midnight the report will conclude with some additional photos ie Lick A Chick (will that be censored??), some archives of twisting roads and distillery shots, and, the inevitable conclusion at the Canso Causeway. - Bob

Since you brought it up: Snookers had a photo of Lick A Chick in Bras D'Or that I could contribute to this report. Geographically it is located back in the North Sydney area (I cropped it a bit for use here). It (http://www.atyp.com/aklickachick/) is a bit of a local icon. For some reason folks seem to enjoy taking a picture of the building.

Within short order, food became the collective focus and Cheticamp was in the cross-hairs. In previous tours the Harbour Restaurant and Bar had a fine breakfast available but this year we found that menu discontinued. However, a lunch menu was available. Next year we hope to obtain the fine services of the Chowder Hut at Meat Cove for a 'one off' breakfast arrangement for our group.







With the refueling of both riders and machines in beautiful Cheticamp, the group moves on. Hugging coastal Route 19, our next stop is the Glenora Inn and Distillery in Glenville (N46 09.163 W61 19.425, to be precise).

Time to depart. A couple of riders left to race for the Prince Edward Island ferry while the remaining riders gathered for the short ride to the Canso Causeway and their ride home.

Crossing the Causeway, we traditionally gather at the Irving Big Stop to fuel and gather for so farewells. This part always feels a bit sad because over the course of six days good times and good friends have evolved.









.... and one by one each is off for their individual adventures and home





...and Mary and I head back to Larry's River to relax, reflect on the good times that we just experienced and enjoy the sunset



...and think about plans for the Salty Fog Riders Rally 2012....year five.
