Salty Fog Riders Rally 2011: The Report

Salty Fog Riders Rally 2011: September 5-9 (Early Arrival on 4th)

Finally the report begins! Maybe February is the best month to post this because so many of us are somewhat house-bound and have even turned to groundhogs to give us hope for an early Spring. Until that time when the winds blow warmer and the daylight lingers longer, I hope that this little Ride Report will help fill a bit of the void.

(NOTE: another batch of pictures is coming in shortly so some of these may be added over time)

    (painting by Mary Delorey)

Salty Fog Riders Rally 2011 (based out of Larry's River, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia) had riders from Massachusetts, New Jersey, Nova Scotia, Ohio, Ontario, Texas, Pennsylvania and Prince Edward Island. We extended our usual five day tour to six so that we could have an Early Arrival day. This gave everyone a chance to relax at our home in beautiful and quiet Larry's River . The only tasks were setting up camp, eating and great conversation.

2011 was our fourth year hosting and we look forward to 2012 and being able to introduce riders to our piece of the earth.

The road in to Larry's River is guided by State of the Art road signs. This year it was quite 'busy' in Larry's River because of the Labour Day Week-end festivities. However, this proved to be a bonus for those arriving early (Sunday).

    State of the Art Signs

Our first arrival helped market the rally all the way from their home in Ohio

    Others soon followed

Arriving on Labour Day Weekend gave everyone an opportunity to be part of community activities and to have some interesting experiences. Two examples: Larry's River has one tiny grocery and 'what not' store. No liquor store and no gas station no motel and no restaurant. Under this condition John's Village Grocery was discovered. A walk across the footbridge to the main road and John was visited by a half dozen explorers.

It was discovered that if you look around long enough you will find something that you didn't know that you needed. John has operated this store, and previously the Co op store, for around 60 years so he knows a few things about everything in the community.

That was one little unplanned excursion. The second was one that would help 'put food on the table' ........

Adventure number two takes place on the bay. Returning from John's store, a small fishing boat prepares for a little fishing venture out in the bay. Those who want to come along do:

    A while later they return...

Nothing left to do now but get cookin' ! A U.S. dollar for every mackerel that the kids caught soon made for a good feed and many grinning young faces.

Great pictures. I'm trying to find someone locally to ride up this year. I wanted to check out PEI last year but that leaking seal in my rear drive had me a little concerned (OK more that 'a little') and I wanted to get back to the states in case it got worse.
Didn't want to break down in a 'foreign' country.

For some demented reason it still amazes me that the ATMs in Canada pay out in Canadian money.

And I seek refuge in aluminum and steel
It takes me out there for just a little while

Hey Harry, I'm always amazed that American ATMs always pay out money all in the same colour green; no blues, purples, browns, reds, etc.

Glad that you got home safely with that rear drive leaking seal.

Just try and use Canadian money at a vendor at an MOA rally In Bloomsburg I told them that if they do they can make a few EXTRA cents on the dollar Cripes you'd think I was givin' them Canadian Tire Money!
