Nice clean repair.
Would it be better to install a metal female quick disconnect before gluing the ring in place. It looks like once the ring is glued, the female plastic disconnect can't be removed if needed. I've never heard of the female part of the disconnect failing, so maybe it's not a concern.
I have metal disconnects from Beemer Boneyard and plan to replace the male part on our K1300S's. I had planned to replace both halves, but then started hearing about the fine cracks in the tank, sometimes caused by over tightening the female half.

Not a concern. Look at the pics in the webpage m239joe cited: you can see that he installed the ring without removing the screwed-in half of the plastic disconnect. Because the ring fits around the disconnect, the disconnect can be unscrewed with the ring in place.
I also installed the metal QDs from the Boneyard, and because of the possibility of difficulty with the screwed-in plastic one, elected to leave it untouched. On the R12R, it isn't necessary to open this QD to change the fuel filter. If it breaks, I'll replace it. Meanwhile, I have one of m239joe's rings sitting on the bench, and will install it as soon as the tank gets almost empty.

Looks like the new pumps come with a ring installed.

Folks,
I'd suggested to Joe that he post this to the forums (I bought one of his rings - nice piece of work..) - but it should be in "Member Opportunities" - so that's where it's headed.

In this picture, if no JB Weld is on the hex part of the QD, it looks like you can remove the the female half of the QD.
In this picture he filled in around the QD and it looks like it's glued in permanently.
It appears the ring will work without going this far with the JB Weld.

I would believe that it does. That ring should be fitted tight, or embedded into the plastic or something. It should not just sit there.
There is another fix available.
