    1993 K75S Conversion Set Engine Spoiler

    When I purchased my 93 K75S, the former owner provided me with the BMW OEM parts set so that I could reinstall the engine spoilers. He also provided the prime coated spoiler sections. I got three, two left and one right sections.

    Although I have two lefthand spoilers, one of them has a broken hinge corner. It was repaired, but I doubt it would withstand the engine vibrations and other shocks the bike frame is subjected to while riding. This part is in a brand new condition. I have included some pictures of all three sections. The painter I will hire says that he can fix this chipped-off plastic corner piece.

    I would like to solicit advice from the members of this Forum. Is this a repairable item? Is so, how would it be done? I am thinking that I may have the painter paint all three spoiler sections and so I would have a spare in section should a mishap occur.

    I forgot to ask:

    I the last picture I posted above, one can see what looks like a repair; there's a hardened clay-like smear on the righthand spoiler section.

    Is this a repair as it doesn't show at all on the other side, the finished side?

    Engine Spoiler Conversion Kit

    Interesting that the conversion kit actually includes the necessary wiring to add an additional horn. However, the instructions do not discuss the installation of this part. Anyone care to take a stab at this conundrum?

    The spoiler is made from BMW's pressed and molded fiberglass, so it can be repaired with a fiberglass kit. The parent material must be properly prepared; I bead blast it, getting deep in to the material, then thoroughly clean with a body solvent. Fillers can be applied normally.

    As I recall, the horn kit mounted to the radiator grill. It wasn't a good idea, IMHO.

    On the K75S, the stock horn mounted to one side of the internal headlight frame, and the factory kit adding the second horn mounted to the other. You can't get the factory kit anymore, but IIRC, it wasn't that complicated.

    JDiaz, would you know if the second horn part of the kit is a different frequency? I was able to discern 420Hz stamped on the horn mount.

    Have you ever seen a K75S with a two-horn setup?

    I had a look at my headlight frame and there doesn't appear to be a mounting point for a second horn, I may be wrong. The mounting instructions don't mention the second horn. I am starting to think it may be in the conversion kit box by inadvertence as I am not the original purchaser of the kit.

    Yesturday, I dropped off four fairing sections for painting at a no-so-local paint shop. The painter, who has been running his own shop for 40 years, told me that the BMW uses SMC plastic which is more plastic than fibreglass. He was commenting on the poor quality of a fibreglass repair job evident on one of the sections I brought him.
