The most important step-not mentioned in the service bulletin, AFAIK-is to insert the impeller shaft through the pump (after installing the oil seal) and drive the seal over it. Failure to do this will lead to seal failure. Lubricate the water seal with coolant before you install it.

You may be better off to remove the pump assembly and have the seals installed by the dealer and then install the assembly yourself. I was.....even Paul has noted how finicky they can be to get right. But maybe I was missing the key part that Lostboy mentions......You are right regarding the 3-Bond or similar needing to be kept out of the flow passage. I have done many over the years and never had a problem. Maybe I am out of touch, but I am surprised you have the impeller as part of a kit. Unless the shaft is scored, I wouldn't think it would be necessary to replace that part. But I guess if it is in good condition you can always take the part back. Have fun!

    Pump Rebuild

I went through this about a year ago. I would support the idea of removing the pump and have the dealer to the seal insert etc. A lot of experienced folks on the forum have said it is very easy to mess up the seal and it is expensive. And what a PITA to rebuild and reinstall it and have it fail! I took mine off my K75S had my local dealer install the seal (they also replaced the impeller/shaft assembly because the shaft was pretty corroded). I also believe, if I recall, that there was an upgrade to the impeller. When I reinstalled it I was successful using ultrablack RTV as the sealant to reseat the pump and cover.

There was a seal re-design and that's why the new impeller is included in the rebuild kit. The old impeller will not fit properly with the new seal. I forget the details now, I believe the old impeller sits too low and contacts the pump housing. Just use all the new parts and all will be fine Here are instructions for the new parts (I used a hex socket instead of the pvc tube):

John.... Thanks for the info. The job looks easy. the big pain is draining every thing. Guess it would be a great time to change the hoses also.
