My buddy and I rode through almost 2,000 miles of the nastiest rain ever to get him a new seat for his R1200R. We rode Memorial Day weekend from Santa Cruz to Seattle so Rich could make him a seat.
This was my buddyÔÇÖs longest ride since winning a nasty battle with the big C, including surgery and chemo. My buddy did great on the ride; he knocked off 500 mile days with ease. It turned out to be a nice shake down run for him. He is planning a 4 corners type ride for a number of weeks this fall to celebrate his retirement.
As for me, it was the first test of my two piece Roadcrafter. The Stich, coupled with an H2O proof Rev-it backlava, pin-loc visor, BMW Alround boots and BMW summer pro gloves allowed no water to enter in almost a couple thousand miles of constant rain. I must admit that my head was freezing until I put on a beanie under my helmet because I let a wonderful woman who has worked for me for the last 17 yrs shave my head before we left. She just lost her hair as she is undergoing chemo to treat a very rare and very nasty cancer. I think she enjoyed shaving the bosses head a bit too much.
As it turned out, Rich had an opening due to a cancellation and I made an impulse decision; yup, I also had a seat made. What a great set up Rich has; a beautiful shop and stunning apartment over the shop for overnight customers. We stay in the apartment with a couple from Alaska.
Below are shots of some of the process with my S and my BuddyÔÇÖs R.
