Went to the "Tennessee Mountain Retreat" posted on the MOA calendar last weekend - won't regale you with tales of Cherohala Skyway or Deals Gap since there are many posts and sites that thoroughly cover the roads in the area. 300 miles down from Louisville, 250 miles riding TN and NC, and 300 miles back. Rain on Sunday returning but you can't complain with the utterly perfect Saturday.
The Tennessee Mountain Retreat was set up by Matt C and had super accomodations (100,000x better than a tent!), good food, hot water, and a great location just 12 miles west of Tellico Plains off of 39/County Road 310. Camp Living Stones is nominally a summer camp for kids and as a rider, you get to use the accomodations before the camp season starts. No organized rides or events, just a bunk to sleep in, good breakfast, and good dinner. Very free-form, how I like to ride and vacate while on vacation.
The Retreat is a nominally Christian event, but definitely not pushy or anything like that. This consisted of morning and evening prayer at meals, and although I am not currently practicing, I thorougly respect others. Also, an optional Saturday night service. Again, these are all by choice.
The people who ran and set up the event did a super job - I can't thank them enough and they'll be getting a real letter, not just an email.
Thank you much, Matt and hope you and your motorcycling dog have many great adventures! If work permits, I'll be by next year.
I really enjoyed the total absence of any e-media, including (especially!) my phone for Friday and Saturday
