    I'm an Olympia Airglide fan.

Which ever you choose, be sure to get a light color.

I rode 14 states in 10 days in August of 2009 - wearing this jacket.

    Excellent fit, comfort and ventilation.

    Might want to consider it?!

I have long arms so I limit my jackets to those that come in tall sizes. My current favorite is the Cortech GX Air 2. I have the silver. I'm wearing it today and it's the one in my avatar.

In the less-than-three-years I've been riding, I've acquired about a dozen jackets looking for the perfect one. I've found the Joe Rocket Phoenix in white to be the coolest so it's what I use when the temperature is over 90.

    vent jacket

I found I like to wear a good vented jacket and a Airhead Long sleeve T-shirt.
I get the good ventilation and the light T-shirt keeps you the wind drying you out too much. I found too much air can dry me out too much.

There are many good jackets, but you really should try them on. On a long hot trip you need a comfortable jacket (even more the in the cold when keep for freezing is the main purpose) the fits well.

    Many choices

...and price points for riding jackets and pants.

Decide how much you want to spend.
Then go for the gear that has the features you want and fits you the best.

I like gear that has as many possible adjustments for correct fit.
Gear that fits sloppily does not afford the same protection as gear that fits correctly.

I am partial to First Gear, Olympia, and Belstaff.

This club has about 40,000 members and about 40,001 opinions on what is the "best" gear.

I use a Joe Rocket mesh armored jacket. You can't get better airflow than mesh and I use it in Louisiana during September and October when it's still in the 90's+ while visiting grandkids. I don't need to spend more $ just to have the BMW patch on the jacket. Joe rocket is consistently considerably less cost than other brands. I'm interested in being as comfortable as possible while still maintaining a reasonable level of protection while riding and don't give a thought about being stylish or supporting the "lifestyle".

Most of the "all mesh" armored jackets will fill your needs - shop the sales and find one that fits. Two things to remember are that sitting at a stop in the sun anything will feel too hot, need the air flow to work. And second, on a longer ride that same air flow can dehydrate you much faster than gear that doesn't evaporate your sweat as rapidly.

I'm currently wearing a Firstgear that I caught on sale for half price and works great. Just keep in mind that the all black mesh job that looks "cool" in the store may feel less "cool" in the sun! ;>

I've had my Hi Viz yellow jacket for 3-4 seasons. It is very comfortable even in SW Florida in August.

The road grime is taking it's toll- I just can't get the the jacket as clean as I would like. I may retire it after this season and get a new one.

As for pants, my BMW Summer Pants are comfortable and breath reasonably well. I got a great deal on a pair of Olympia Mesh pants and I hope to try them out soon.

I picked up a JoeRocket mesh jacket two weeks ago when it started getting hot again in ATL. So far it's real comfortable and cool. I also just ordered the Xelement 507 womens mesh jacket from Leatherup.com for the girlfriend. This one is about half the price of the JoeRocket so I'll be interested to see if there is any difference in quality.

Having to ride first in TX and now in the Sacramento valley where average summer temps hold at about 95 +/-??F for 4-6 months, the coolest, fully armored jacket I've found is the basic mesh jacket of the Tour Master Intake jacket system. It also has two full liners, one that is water/wind proof and the other an insulated liner. The armor stays with the mesh jacket, but the mesh is very porous. I tried to replace it with a BMW Club 2 jacket, but the TM is coolest. I believe I purchased it in about 2005 and the whole system was only about $125. Very versital and pretty cheap when compared to similar jackets by other manufacturers. Mine is black with reflective piping with some additional white trim, and while that does't help in the heat, it was the only option in the store at the time.

Erlk?Ânig - a great poem. I never associated it with riding motorcycles ... until now.

Hopefully our rides will not be end as that of der Knabe.
