Oil for R90/6
Folks,
I did a search on the forum to find the best oil for a R90/6 and found the recommendation to buy Spectro motorcycle oil. I bought some Spectro Golden 4 Motorcycle Semi-Synthetic Engine Lubricant 20w50 rated A.P.I SL. Did I get the right oil? I am confused because the label says it is for "modern" motorcycles and I am not sure if my R90/6 is considered a "modern" bike.
Thanks for your input on this!

IMO, no you bought the wrong oil. The SL rating is no correct for the bike. Did you read this recent thread?

Depending on your perspective, you're bike is not modern. It was built in the mid '70s and needs oil that was formulated for that era.

I did read this thread and thought I was buying the right oil. The author recommended "Golden Spectro 4 in 20W50...can also have SOMEwhat extended drain intervals, as it is a part-synthetic and I have considerable experience with using this oil. This oil is a bit expensive, but is of excellent quality. This oil also has an excellent base stock. It is my favorite Airhead engine oil." What I got was Spectro Golden 4 Motorcycle oil with an API rating of SL. Is this comparable to the API rating of SG? I have read conflicting reports about this.

I guess I didn't read closely enough...actually Snowbum says that Golden Spectro 4 is probably one of the best oils, in his opinion. Turns out you quoted Snowbum!
I think what Snowbum likes about the GS4 is that is is part synthetic with all of its good qualities and apparently has a good amount of ZDDP...not all synthetics do. He seems to not be a big fan of full synthetics.
I should have paid more attention...I'm a mineral based oil person, so I don't follow the semi-synth thing. But Bob seems to have a good bit of experience on this.
