Question Replacing Dead Battery - R1100GS

So, I decided to ride the bike to work today. Took it off the Battery Tender and started it up. It was a little slow to start but it did. Stopped to get something to eat. Bike won't start. It awaits my return to the Kroger parking lot.

Battery is a 6 year old Yuasa. I can get an Odyssey PC680 locally.

Is there going to be a problem fitting the Odyssey PC680 to my '96 R1100GS?

My experience with PC680s on my R1100RSL was positive. They retained charge better than conventional batteries, and lasted longer.

They did require a bit of fiddling as the connections were different than on stock batteries: the Odysseys have a flat recessed thread on top of the battery case, rather than a vertical mount with a horizontal hole through it. Some suppliers provide heavy copper tabs so the Odysseys bolt right up. I easily made adaptors from a 1/2" steel angle bracket from Ace Hardware. Look at the connectors, and you'll see the difference, and what you need to do make them fit. Mine needed a bit of bending and a hole drilled in each one.

So: you may have a challenge to do the fitting in the parking lot, but the battery will be just fine.

Similar experience to that of dbrick.
The supplied battery post brackets added height so I made these from 1/2" copper pipe hammered flat and drilled.

I don't know the GS well but I think it has a steel tank.
If so, make absolutely certain the posts can't ever touch it.

I noticed you're in Dayton OH. I googled "Batteries Plus Dayton OH" and there are quite a few there. I bought a PC680 from them (good price) and it came with nuts and bolts and two 90 degree copper adapters in the box.
    Hope this helps.

I wrapped everything I could with Super Tape to make sure there were no contacts with the tank but, I'm going to have to take the tank off this weekend and fix the horn wire that was disconnected. Maybe my fault. I'm also going to clean all of the connections and fix the tie-down strap.

The 90 degree adapters were a necessity. I got the battery at Batteries Plus off Miller Lane in Dayton.
