    Waterproof duffel - R1200RT

I'm looking for a waterproof duffel, not too big, maybe 24 inches long for a 2011 R1200RT. I am deciding between the Woflman medium, the BMW, and the Sea Line. Number one, will these work well on the RT? I ride one up, so having it on the pillion is fine.

Also, I have looked at other brands like the Ortlieb and Helen, but the Ortlieb has no mounting points which I think is a bonus, and I'm not sold on the materiel on the Helen. I'm really wondering if I even need to mess with the "roll" design to close the bag. That is kind of a turnoff to me, that is partially why I was considering the SeaLine Zip duffel. I also want a bag that is black, so it's unobtrusive.

Contradicting myself however (which is my hallmark ) I am interested in the large BMW bag, which closes easily, and is totally waterproof. I don't care about the cost as much as something that is visually appealing, and also the most functional.

Input on size for the RT?

    Good product. Kermit duffle.

Not 100% waterproof, but nothing really is.

I have a Sea Line, which was totally waterproof for years, until it was punctured in an accident. The zipper was completely water tight.

Regardless of whether you get a zip or a roll duffle, get one that opens the long way. It's a lot easier to find things, get stuff in and out, and get it organized so it fits, when you have a bigger opening.

I now have an REI medium sized duffle. It also is waterproof and has held up now for the last 4 or 5 years, so I think I'll probably keep it.

I put all my camping gear except my chair inside: sleeping bag, Thermarest pad, tent, stove, mess kit, 1 qt. stainless french press coffee maker, a couple beer mugs and a "cubitainer" to hold water while I'm camped.

    Good luck!

The medium can care a lot of camp gear, kermit chairs fit in just right. Hours of driving rain and not a drop in. Makes a good back rest. bag.

50 Liter BMW duffle This bag has a plastic tray in the bottom to keep it from sagging.

    30 liter Ortlieb

    Both bags have waterproof zippers.

I have been searching for a bag to take to Alaska on the GS.. I know wrong thread, but same brand.

I need a waterproof one that should have some loops to strap to.

I will keep watch in this tread.

I use the ortlieb shown in Lee's post. Run the tie down under the outer zippered compartment and around the bag & it aint moving in any direction. Many miles with that rig in all weather with no complaints. Pricey but you get what you pay for.

That's correct, and if you look at the bottom of the BMW bag, it has it's own attachment buckels with straps.

The Travel Zip Ortlieb small 30 liter bag is on sale at The Touring Store. $85 with free shipping. The roll top bags are even cheaper.

Check under the clearance section and scroll down to Travel zip.

The large 50 liter Rack Pack is a good bag for $80 with free shipping.
Run your straps under the handle.

Many years ago I bought an H2W "Clothes Sack". I've never used it for clothes.

    http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p..._Clothes_Sacks

It is similar to a roll top bag, but the roll goes the length of the bag instead of across the ends. Has a pair of built in cinch straps. I typically stuff my tent, kermit chair, tarp, and a camera tripod in the bag just to keep it all together.

Here it is getting strapped to the back of my R69S.

I use the Ortlieb classic for ages and it never let in a drop.

The good thing is that you can adjust it for size. Strapped to the rear seat it doesn't move an inch.
