    Albert Nobbs

IMO Glenn Close should have won the Academy Award for this performace.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EollFzgHQws

Five-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close plays the title character, a woman disguised as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland. Some thirty years after beginning this charade, she finds herself trapped in a prison of her own making as she seeks new love to change her life. The prestigious international cast includes Oscar nominee Janet McTeer, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Brenda Fricker and Brendan Gleason.

“’Albert Nobbs’ is a film of great texture and tenderness, and the actors are a joy to behold.”-Detroit News

The Kid with the Bike ........... brilliant !

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival, this deeply moving film delves into the emotional life of boy searching for his father. Determined to be reunited, the boy’s quest for his father becomes an odyssey as he travels by bicycle along busy streets in his single-minded pursuit. A kind-hearted woman, who generously agrees to watch over the boy, tries to tame his anger with love and acceptance. The film is filled with grace and a deep understanding of the complicated nature of love and loss. It reminds us that the most compelling stories are unfolding in real life rather than in outer space or some other place that cinema usually takes us.

“Terrific…An edge-of-your-seat emotional roller coaster ride…often heart-rending and completely worth it…Not a second is wasted and every scene has a purpose.” -Salon

Thumbs up This is an Iranian film and it is excellent !!!

    A SEPARATION

Winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, this is a highly nuanced, deeply human film. Set in contemporary Iran, it is a compelling drama filled with universal themes and ethical dilemmas. Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband, Nader, and their daughter. When Nader refuses to leave behind his elderly father, Simin files for divorce and returns to her parents' home alone. In his wifeÔÇÖs absence, Nader hires a young woman to assist with his father, hoping that his life will return to normal. When he discovers that the new maid has been keeping secrets, he realizes that there is more on the line than just his marriage.

ÔÇ£A constant surprise, a film that captures the drama and suspense of real life.ÔÇØ-NPR

    ONE WEEK

OK, ok, two weaknesses here... 1) A motorcycle movie, 2) A movie that showcases the splendor of Canada. But a brilliant film none the less.

    The trailer pitch --
"ONE WEEK tells the story of 20-something Ben Tyler (Joshua Jackson), who flees from an impending marriage, a ho-hum job, and a recent diagnosis in an attempt to live life to the fullest. His misguided road trip on a vintage motorcycle becomes an adventure of self-discovery set against the great Canadian landscape."

    Larry Crowne

The move also emphasizes the theory of how much fun you can have on a small motorcycle!

Yes, see it on IMAX or "Extreme" or what-ever LARGE format screen your local cineplex offers... This MIGHT be the best Bond ever. (Yeah, yeah, lots of hype around it, but deservedly so!)
