RS Lowers - remove exhaust?

1981 RS - It has the split lowers with the bracket at the bottom.

I was under the impression that the split allowed you to remove the lowers without taking the pipes off. It's looking like I may be wrong.
Do I need to remove the exhaust?
What's the trick here?

No, you do not have to take off the exhaust.

There is a bracket underneath. It has a tab that connects the 2 sides of the split and is anchored to the bike motor block I think.

Take off the 2 bolts, 10MM head I think, one each side of the split and the fiberglass gives enough to spread it and go around the exhaust pipe.
I just make sure the pipe is clean so as not to scratch the paint.
God slow, it will make it.

Yes, it will make it, but be very careful because it will also crack. Do not ask me how I know. It it does crack it can be repaired, again do not ask me how I know.
