BAEHR communication system - installed on 2005 R1200RT

Hi,
Looking to purchase a used 2005, R1200RT with the BAEHR communication system installed.

I never had a communication system and am wondering if anyone can explain what this gadget will do for me? How does it work?

I heard that Baehr went out of business a while ago so although the equipment is top shelf it may be difficult to get parts.
The webpage http://uk.baehr.net/kommunikation.htm# appears to signal that business is booming again??? Not sure what's going on.
