I'm waiting on the iPad. There are strong rumours of a 7" version around Christmas. That one I'd buy. The existing one is too big.

For apps, one iPhone app I like is "Campwhere" and it includes state, federal, and provincial parks.

Gas Cubby works well. We used it on our western road trip to the rally, and Dave is still using it for his car. It tracks not only gas mileage, but maintenance/service intervals etc., and can track multiple vehicles. Here's a link showing what it's all about.

The link shows it as a $7 purchase, but it is also available free in sponsored mode.

I just tried a variety of USB devices with the iPad this morning. It seems that it WILL recognize USB and Card-based storage ONLY IF the storage device was formatted by a camera! My camera-formatted SD cards worked (with the iPad SD-card connector) and my my camera formatted Compact Flash worked in a CF>USB adapter plugged into the iPad USB connecter.

I have also seen reports of USB keyboards being recognized by the iPad through the iPad USB connector.

However, what DID NOT work were:
    - Passport USB disk drive
    - non-camera formatted USB Flash Drive
    - USB-based external SuperDrive

    Sorry for the correction!!!

Agreed, and, therefore, it's too heavy as well. The current size is great for the home/office/messenger bag but for taking on moto-trips, I'd much prefer a 3/4 version. I'd like it to be small and light enough to slip into a tank bag/map case without displacing too much.

    I'll phone Steve this afternoon!

My iPad is the perfect size! It fits in tank bag and is wonderful to have on any trip long or short.

I'd add one app, that is great for finding new places to ride. It uses your present location, or a place you want to find out about, to obtain information on rides submitted by other riders. You can look at the trip on google maps once you select something you might be interested in taking. I travel a lot, and have found many, many trips I want to take that I would have most likely never found if not for this app.

It's called "Greatest Road". If it's not free, it's very cheap in price, rich in substance.

Yeah. Mine will fit in my BMW tank bag ok. But I'd really like to lock it in the glove box...

i am waiting for more ubiquitous 4G and the incorporation of telephony features into the iPad.

that, and some form of connection that will let me plot a route on the iPad and transfer it to the GPS.

nice form factor, really slick UI, just seems like a pretty frivolous device at this point in its dev.

a netbook is more appropriate and cheaper. i wish the Mac Air didn't cost so freakin' much.
