AirLok Luggage Security Straps now available!

    Drum roll......

I was told by my Airhead guru to put some security straps on my luggage or be a VERY unhappy camper - so I rolled my own. My first attempt was made from Chineseum black plastic quick release clips and low thread count rayon webbing I purchased at a local fabric store. Unfortunately they wouldn't take much abuse and kept slipping, even after I cinched them tight. From my previous experience with these plastic buckles I knew they would last about a year in sunlight before failing under even light loading.

So, after researching military specification hardware (I've been a Commercial Pilot for 28 years and know what the good stuff is...) here's the end result:

AirLok Luggage Security Straps - "When it absolutely, positively has to stay ON the bike!"

    Specifications

*56" overall length, 1" wide 700 lb. test, UV resistant USA made polypropylene webbing (the thick stuff)

*Sewn with FAA Certified thread from USA based Synthetic Thread Company.

*Unique cam buckle lock is made in the USA from heat treated alloy steel, breaking strength of 600 lbs. and a working load of 300 lbs. You'll be putting about 3 lbs. of tension on this when clamped. You pre-set the tension when you pull on the free end of the strap, and the lock snaps shut securely. It can't be accidentally opened - it only opens when you purposely pull up on the free end of the strap. The free end also tucks neatly through the bottom slot in the protector to keep it from flapping in the wind. This buckle is used on the USS Ronald Reagan nuclear aircraft carrier to keep work stations and cargo in place!

*Black powder coat finish on main body, bronze chromate finish on wire bale. (...that can be hand polished to bright steel as shown with a rag and some Simichrome, Autosol, or similar metal polish in about a minute)

*.04" thick polyethylene protector not only keeps the case surface from getting scuffed, it grips and prevents the strap from sliding sideways when in use!

*Guaranteed not to slip, and a lifetime guarantee on all components against failure for the original owner. Designed for extreme use, not to exceed rated values.

    * Other custom sizes available, just let us know what length you need, same price. Also great for securing Jerry cans on your jeep or heavy cargo in the bed of your pick up truck. Lots of uses!

    Stupid question maybe Ron,
but I have an '84 with slightly "fatter luggage" although made by Krauser I believe. Any reason to think these straps wouldn't work for me and others? Have you tried them on different styles? I roughly measured the circumference and it was about 45" but I'm not so sure about how the metal clasp would conform to the bag. Otherwise I would say that your straps are the cat's meow. Nice work for sure. Later,

    Hey Geoff:

If you can take a tailor's measuring tape and give me an accurate measurement we can easily custom make them to fit - these would almost for sure work but the free end might be too long - although it is EASY to cut and sear the free end with a lighter...

These buckles were MADE to go around curved surfaces like a 55 gallon drum - they would work fine, they pivot around an area of about 1" where the straps attach to it - not rigid like a typical ratchet type assembly that would be flat over a length of 4 or 5 inches.

    Thanks for the nice compliment!

Any and all comments are welcome.

    Hi Greg:

AirLok is SO new I have not had the opportunity to integrate the product on our website...

In the mean time you can order by using PayPal and sending your remittance to KonTourSeat@cs.com which is an E-mail address.

    Smile Nigeria?

My spiritual advisor told me to stop sending money there. I guess another $25.00 though is not really real money now is it? I will jump in it tomorrow and place my order.

    Thanks Mr. Ron,

    UDMAN!

Got my set in the mail today. Popped the bags on the bike, and the gave the straps a try. They look and work as advertised. Nice and simple, will do the trick.

    Thanks for the functional product!

Yes, the Canadian contingent is quite interested in these. Any chance of sales to the Great White North?
