    Tire reccomendations

I am in the market for some tires for my new to me R 100 CS. It is a 83 and I am taking the advise to run the original size tires. There does not seem to be a whole lot of options. I am looking at Metzler lasertech's but am curious about Continental Contigo's. Anyone have a particular favorite or experience with these? I used Metzler 880 and I believe a ME 33 on my R65, but they were the oversized metric. Thanks for any help

Stick with the correct sized tires. If you decide to go metric, get sizes that are close to the original. Generally, thats 90/90 or possibly 100/90 up front and 110/90 and possibly a 120/90 in the rear. Search the forum for Avon...there was a good thread a while back where tires were discussed. Or just go back in time on the forum...I'm sure you'll run across the threads.

The Avon got good recommedations previously...I only got 6000 miles or so out of my Lazertec, and since the vast, vast majority of my riding is straight up and straight ahead I don't consider that acceptable...

Just put a Dunlop GT501 120/90 on the rear of my R100/7... crosses to a 4.24-18 but is exactly the same width as my old 4.00-18...expect better mileage than the Metzler...also was cheaper...

I switched to Avon Road Riders from Metzler Lazertecs this summer. I liked the Metzlers (having used many sets of them over the years), but I think I like the Avons better in terms of their feel on the road... more neutral, quicker handling. The Metzlers always felt "heavy" to me... and the rear Lazertec had a disconcerting wiggle when leaned over until the tread wore down a little. Also, the Avons still come in the original sizes and were about $30 cheaper. Not sure how well they will rate in terms of mileage... only about 500 miles on them so far.
