    riding to Richmond

I'll be riding to Richmond next week for work from NYC. Totally bored with the 95 south route.

Will come down thru harrisburg, pa on Route 15. Thought I'd stay on 15 thru Culpepper, then take US 522 to I 64 and into richmond. My question is; How is Route 15 in virginia between Frederick, MD and Culpepper, and also is US 522 a good route. Thanks for your suggestions.

Route 15 and 522 are good roads but can be very congested especially 15 from the state line in Virginia to Culpepper. Avoid it during rush hours which are from 3pm to 7pm, If you are going thru the area at that time you can take I70 west to I81 and pick up 522 at route 50 in Winchester Va.

I have taken 522 between Culpepper and I-64 many times. I have not had any problems with traffic on 522. It is a rural two lane highway and occasionally you can get behind a slow vehicle, but it usually is not difficult to pass. The views, while not stunning, are pleasant, and it is far superior to riding elbow to fender on I-95.

To avoid I-64, take US33 from its intersection with US522 to Richmond.
