Packing less for the rally this time... maybe, maybe not!

I promised myself I'd bring less stuff along to this rally than in years past. But, my packing checklist is getting to be just as long as last year's! Grrr. I always feel that I REALLY need that one little gadget or extra camping fuel bottle or whatever, and it ends up just not getting used. Maybe I should just accept the fact that I'm a packrat and love myself for who I am...

Or do what I did for the Johnson City Rally last year: UPS.

Packed up all the camping gear and shipped it out to the rally, where retrieval was easy.

Then re-packed it and shipped it home at the end of the week.

Allowed me to travel lighter and saved room for gizmos, a new jacket, tee's and other 'necessities.'

Now that's an idea I didn't really consider - UPS. But, I am planning to do a little camping on the way home, so I'd only ship my gear to the rally site, then load it on to the bike for the way home. At least I could travel with less stuff on the way there, which might be kind of nice since I'm planning to do the Redmond 1000 and will not need my camping gear then - it would just be coming along for the ride to Redmond. I can envision arriving on-site, going through registration, then heading over to shipping/receiving to collect waiting camping gear... not a bad idea at all!

I decided to do the same. Much easier to pack and enables me to ride 2-up with my son. But, according to him, it does loose the cool factor.

How much gear are you guys hauling ??

I'm riding roundtrip from PA to the rally and back with a detour on the way home. 10 days mostly camping. All of my stuff fits in the panniers and top case along with a drybag atop one pannier. And I'm not wearing the same underwear for 10 days

I will admit that if I wasn't camping along the way, the UPS option would be the ticket.
A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving...
