suggested route from yellowstone to redmond??

Im starring at the maps trying to come up with logical and scenic routes. someone has done this already im sure!! dont want to do intersates, of course. can someone recommend the better routes to head west from yellowstone to redmond? would appreciate it.

It would be the LONG route, but if you roll up Idaho 93 to Missoula you can take the Hwy 12 over famous Lolo pass. Cross into Washington and go south through Clarkston on 129 (becomes hwy 3 in Oregon) to Rattlesnake pass (a crazy fun road). At Enterprise go west on 82 to La Grande and a short stint on I-84 to Hwy 244 through the Blue Mts. to Ukiah. From there I would go south on 359 to Long Creek, then west on 402 to Monument, then through the painted hills country along the John Day River on hwy 19 through Spray, Fossil and Antelope to 97 south which takes you Redmond.

Even if you don’t take that route, the Antelope, Fossil, Spray part of the state has wonderful high desert/big vista scenery and roads that you could explore on an easy day trip from the rally site.

The border of Oregon/Idaho is Hells Canyon. Find it and head West, cannot miss Redmond. Very nice riding along the Snake R. at Hells Canyon. Baker City, Oregon has good camping at a Good Sams Campground North of town. Stayed there once. Anyhow, find Boise/Caldwell and Hwy95 North to Copperfield and you're in Hells Canyon. Go West to Baker City/Pick up Hwy7 to Hwy26 West from Baker City. Really good ride/pretty! Stop in Prineville on Hwy 26 and see the Firefighters Memorial, very well done and worthy. Colorado Fire a few years back took their lives near Glenwood Springs,Co..I stop every time I go through there and pay my respects. Randy
