    Brake Light Modulator

    I would like to install a Brake Light Modulator on my 2008 R1200R. How difficult is it to get to the rear brake light wiring ? it seems like I need to remove a few things. Also the bike has a "single wire system" (SWS) will this present any problems? Anything else I should be concerned about. Thanks for any help.

    Wiring

    I can't speak to your question regarding the tail light on the R1200R, but I installed Hyperlites on my 2009 R1200RT and it was easy. If you are considering Hyperlites, I would suggest calling them/e-mailing them and asking them to e-mail you a pdf of the instructions for hooking it up before you buy. They are helpful/friendly and will be happy to do it for you, once I saw how easy it was going to be, I bought the kit. Hope this is helpful. Don

    You can remove the back lights with a phillips screw driver and you can access the rest of the wiring by taking off the back seat.

    If you have your owneers manual there is a section specific for brake light replacement

    The single wire system aka CANBUS needs to be taken into consideration.

    The CANBUS is just the mode of communication of the signals on the bike.

    It in NO WAY causes or throws the faults - that is controlled by the bike computer (ZFE Module)

    That little detail cleaned up - you need to ensure that the Brake light modulator does not provide an electrical load higher or lower than what the ZFE expects to see.

    It should state from the manufacturer of the BLM that it can run on single wire or CAN systems

    Actually R12R uses Torx.. but the Torx driver is included in the minimalist tool kit.

    There are a few options for the R12R. Almost any flashing LED setup can be added to the existing bulb light system and won't cause a bulb failure to be shown. The better kits provide piggy-back spade connectors allowing you to do this without really touching the factory harness.

    I have a Run-N-Lites LiteBlazer (http://www.run-n-lites.com/prod-LiteBlazer.asp) - and it's quite effective, with a combination running light and decay-flashing brake light. If you get this one for an R12R - get the flat bracket model.

    There are lots of other auxiliary LED devices available. I'd suggest using this sort of solution rather then trying to blink the existing rear light - it adds lights instead of just modifying your existing ones - and more lights = greater conspicuity.

    Here's what I did:

    First, I installed Kisan tailBlazers shortly after I bought my RT.
    The next year I had the dealer install the BMW LED tail light (he said it was "tricky" to install, so I let him; don't think it is, tho).

    I have HyperLights, but they sent the wrong spade connectors with them, so I haven't installed them yet, but will when I correct the connector issue.

    Maybe some combination like that or modified will meet your needs.
