    Unhappy zumo Mount

Last fall my zumo 550 stopped charging. One of the contacts on the bottom had eroded away. Neither the bike or car mounts would power the zumo. I sent it to Raytech in Montreal for repair and $200 later I had a good working zumo. Riding around in "Hill Country" for the month of March, the zumo quit charging again. This time one of the springy pegs on the mount was "bent"( as in not verticle). Yes, the peg that matched the eroded contact. When I tried to carefully straighten the peg - it fell out. I tried to push the peg back into its socket but it wouldn't stay there. I have ordered a new mount for $81 It seems very likely that the "wobbly" peg caused the contact to eroded. In the picture you can see that this peg is well protected so I am at a loss as to why it bent. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hadn't read this until today...

had one do that a few years back and a few pins came out, got one thru Garmin . Had a second one with several pins falling out on buddies bike. Had a spare I got with a used Tourtech mount to solve his issue.

My current cradle has a paper spacer between the cradle and the Zumo so my XM works in stereo...the contacts are clean and springy on the cradle, the contacts on the Zumo are clean as well. Prob need a new cradle again

do you install and remove your unit alot? I only remove mine to put it on another bike, but it pretty much stays on the RT all the time. if your concerned with someone stealing it, invest in a $ 24.00 Ram lock.

We have multiple bikes with an SAE connector at the bars so I move the GPS and the cradle as one unit, but do have two mounts, one used in the 4 wheelers so it does come out on occasion. I don't think my issues were from in/out...I think being out in the weather and dirt getting in the cradle hurt mine as the little contacts have corroded over the years.
The RAM lock as well as the Touratech one I used to have just slow down folks, if they really want it...

If I am out of site in a nice part of a town in Thugville, I put the whole cradle in a sidecase if I am worried. Then the whole bike can get ripped off

Could you either post a pic of such locking RAM mount or give a part #? I am interested in one that would secure the unit for only $24.00. Thanks. Paul

    The RAM solution

the Touratech is a lot more than $24...it is a complete cradle that surrounds the Garmin cradle. I do not see the model I got from a riding buddy listed anymore
