Well yesterday I decided to see about the horn install. My horn is a "Flosser"
made by "Stebel". So the compressor and horn are a single unit.
Now I have a question about the relay, it appears to be the same, 30 amp
ID #'s and shape match, but the instructions do not indicate a ground to relay.
It has trigger wire to 86, positive from new horn to 30, fused positive from battery
to 87, and positive from old horn wire to 85.???? Thats 2 positives to the relay?
and no ground?
Shows all grounds to chassis.
Any thoughts on this setup, seems odd to have 2 hot wires into the relay.
Pics to follow
That is strange - for my Stebel set up there was a special piggy back connector to provide ground for the compressor and for the relay itself.
If you do not have ground and the relay energizes there will be no current flow for the compressor.
A quick way to check is with a small alligator clip wire which you can connect to the ground post of the relay and then touch ground as the relay is energized.
If things are properly wired every time you connect the ground the compressor should turn on.

Here are the instructions included with horn
The schematics make sense, different way to skin an cat.
You are adding a new ground to the compressor.
The horn button is being used for two things
1- is the horn activation,
2 - the other is providing the ground for the relay solenoid in the relay on pin 86
You are running 2 postive taps off the baterry (as where my set up is from the negative terminal)
One is for the power to the solenoid part of the relay (85) the other is the fused wire which will carry all the power to the compressor on 87
30 is the connection of the power (87) to the positive of the compressor to turn it on.
Hope that helps.
Geat pictures.

Soooo.... either wiring technique works?
On the horn wire from OEM horn ....green is trigger and brown is..?
My kit did not include a ball with pin wire to tap into horn.
Your setup seems to be easier, maybe its the big color pics...lol
So I figure to go with your setup assuming the relay is the same as yours,
and now also wishing I had a centech box to clean up the wiring "jungle"
that is beginning to appear, as I "farkelize" in the off season.
Thanks again
Yes
Probably ground
One option would be to tap into it
Not so much the pictures but the kit from Excel Werkes was complete
Never too late to add the Centech
You're welcome![]()
