    Do I Have a Problem?

Just got my heads back for '81 R100 from MMW. When I shipped them, I included the rocker assys w/ blocks wire tied in place and separated by head side, i.e. left and right. Real pleased w/ work done and prices charged, fwiw.

When I got the package back, the rockers were all together in bubble wrap, individually wrapped and lumped all together in separate box. Are they 'handed' by any chance?

    Will this be a problem?

not positive, but easy enough to check parts numbers here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do...ies=K57&arch=0. If same #, then same parts. If different #s, then maybe different parts.

This should be a lesson to you.

Always mark you parts when you remove them and/or before you send then out!

I was helping my Uncle build his kids hot rod and he sent the small block out for machining without marking it and our four bolt main block came back a two bolt.

We called the guy and it went like:

Hi! We sent you a FBM Small Block and got a TBM block back. Wheres our bock?

    Did you mark your block?

    Uh... No...

Well, sorry, we can't be for responsible unmarked parts. Anything else we can help you with?

The rockers are not "handed". Number 1 will work as the LH intake or RH exhaust. Number 2 works as LH exhaust or RH intake. Just orient the clamps and shafts correctly.

Yeah, messed up, but had made small plywood crate to ship them in w/ center divider, thought they would come back in same, didn't happen.

I have to know-why did you send them the rockers in the first place? Did they re-face them?

Truth is, I didn't know if there was a problem w/ the bearings, had a lot of valve noise.

Figured it would be better to include them than have to ship in separate package. I've got a great mechanic buddy that works on airplanes and has several old bikes he wrenches on. He's the 'go-to' guy around here when guys screw their stuff up not knowing what they are doing.

I figured out a long time ago I was always gonna be one of them, lol. We got it back together for the most part, valves adjusted, carbs and exhaust is all that's left.

I can't buy the proper oil in the town of 7,000 I live in here in Ar. At least, none of the stuff on Snobum's list Parts stores have never heard of zddp.

    Thanks for the help.

In answer to the question y'all are probably too polite to ask, I didn't want to spend my last days w/ a Tri Bonn America.

Autozone carries several types of motorcycle oil. I've found the Valvolene 20W-50 best suited for my use and it is $3.99 per quart. Oddly, the equivalent Castrol 20W-50 motorcycle oil is $4.99 per quart.

The Valvolene website now shows the zinc concentration in the motorcycle oil. It is above 1100 ppm.

I've used Valvolene DuraBlend 20W-50 for many years. The Valvolene website shows this product as having 830 ppm zinc content.
