    Power outlets

For a touring bike, the GT has a real shortage of power outlets, and none at all in the dashboard area. Has anyone found a good way to correct this?
It might be good to have a cigarette-lighter style outlet as well as a standard BMW-style. Weatherproof is a must.
So where can you buy such things, and any good ideas on mounting them?
    Thanks,

Aerostich has a SAE panel mount connector kit that looks like it would fit the bill. Page 40 of their Fall supplement catalog. (aerostich.com)

You can also try cyclegadgets.com and pirateslair.net...they do lots of stuff for Beemers...

I mounted a second powerlet connetor here (you have two choices I picked the green one)

    Very easy to do

remove cover and knock out one of the cover ports

    Mount and wire

The other end, power, went to my centech

I just did a search in the "Gear" section of the forum (which I should have done first) and found a reference to www.easternbeaver.com
They have everything you could imagine in both styles of connector.
    Problem solved.

For wiring things in I just bought one of these for my wife's GS. This distribution block has the neatest installation and flexibilty that I have found.

The Fuzeblock is hands down a better presented device.

My only reservation for intially getting it is the 30A limit.

Which is robust but the Centech will carry 70A - and for it do that you need to add the relay to the centech.

My vague point on this is to consider the future items you plan to add to your bike so that you do not run into a capacity issue.

If the Fuzeblock came out with a higher rating originally i would have purchased it along time ago.

I decided I would just get another one if it came to that...and I probably won't exceed the 30 amps anyway, so why not start out with this simpler fuse block.

Well that's part of it...more is the charging system consideration.

The BMWs have 50 to 70 amp alternators. For example, the K12GT (new) has a 70A if it has heated seats, and 50 A if not. The R12GS has a 60A.

So it takes around 5A to run the bike give or take. The lights, on high beam for the K12 bikes take about 12A, don't know about ABS, but I would assume that we could suck the battery down for that since it is not constant.

So in the case of the K12GT without heated seats, that is 50-5-12=33 Amps.

    A K12S has a 55A alternator, so it would leave 38A available.

For a 12GS with a 60A alternator, it leaves about 60-5-8=47A. It only has two bulbs in the headlight.

BTW, here are the Gerbing loads, in case anyone would be wondering...

    12v Jackets 6.4 - 6.7
    12v Vest Liner 4.5 - 4.6
    12v Pants 3.6 - 4.0
    12v Gloves 1.8 - 2.2

    And the R12RT has a 55A alternator.
