The first few hours of the 24-hour race at the N?rburgring (DE) have been a turbulent affair. BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS has made a good start to the endurance classic. As night fell over the Nordschleife, the team had established itself in the leading group with both BMW Z4 GT3s. ...More

fter its magnificent one-two at the opening race of the DTM season in Hockenheim (DE) a fortnight ago, BMW Motorsport was back on the podium at round two of the series at Brands Hatch (GB). Bruno Spengler (CA), at the wheel of the BMW Bank M3 DTM, finished runner-up behind Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller (DE). Marco Wittmann (DE) and Joey Hand (US) claimed their best DTM results to date, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Augusto Farfus (BR) was unlucky, as a technical problem forced him to retire from the race while running second. Martin Tomczyk?s (DE) fightback from last place on the grid came to an end when he was forced off the track by another competitor. Timo Glock (DE) suffered the same fate. ...More

Following the successful season-opener in Hockenheim (DE), the podium at the second DTM race of the year again featured a BMW driver: BMW Team Schnitzer driver Bruno Spengler (CA) crossed the finish line in second place in the BMW Bank M3 DTM at the 1.929-kilometre ?Brands Hatch Circuit?, a repeat of last year?s result. At the end of 98 laps, the reigning DTM champion came home 7.641 seconds behind winning Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller (DE). Robert Wickens (CA) finished third in his Mercedes to complete the podium. https://www.press.bmwgroup-sport.com/pressclub/p/sp/pressDetail.html?title=podium-at-brands-hatch-for-dtm-champion-bruno-spengler-%E2%80%93-marco-wittmann-and-joey-hand-also-in-the&outputChannelId=52&id=T0142027EN&left_menu_item=node__7778 ]...More[/url]

BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK Team - WSBK - Donington ? Preview
For the fifth round of the 2013 Superbike World Championship, the BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK Team heads to a track which plays an important role in the history of BMW Motorrad. The British ?Donington Park Circuit? is the venue not only of the first ever victory, but also the first ever one-two for the German manufacturer in the Superbike World Championship. Last year?s success was the first of nine victories in total so far for BMW Motorrad in this series. Three of them have been celebrated in the first four rounds of the 2013 season. Chaz Davies (GBR) won both races at Spanish ?Motorland Arag?n?, while Marco Melandri (ITA) climbed the top step of the podium at his home round at Monza

75 years after its debut in the legendary Mille Miglia endurance road race, the BMW 328 has now completed the latest edition of this tradition-steeped reliability trial in similarly impressive style. In signing up a total of nine BMW 328 models for this year?s event, BMW Group Classic once again demonstrated the close ties that bind the BMW brand to the Mille Miglia. by*TEDTalks
If you're lucky enough to live without want, it's a natural impulse to be altruistic to others. But, asks philosopher Peter Singer, what's the most effective way to give? He talks through some surprising thought experiments to help you balance emotion and practicality -- and make the biggest impact with whatever you can share.

The first major conference for the digital currency suggests it is gaining legitimacy, but in a manner disappointing to some early enthusiasts.
This past Sunday, Doug Scribner took out five $100 bills and began feeding them into what looked like a small, white ATM in San Jose Conference Center in California. The machine swallowed the bills smartly and credited him with an equivalent value in Bitcoins, an intangible, digital currency that is backed by not gold or any government, but by math.

World SBK Round 5 at Donington Park has the potential to be a thriller.

Round 4 at Monza saw Melandri steal a win for BMW by fractions of seconds at the last monent of the final lap from the Aprilaia team and fractionally fall short of a repeat performance in Race 2. The rest of the field, on a track that has a way of stringing riders out over great distances, were amazingly closely buncnched in competative groups.

Donington Park is a track that must be ridden with great alacrity. Midfield teams always find some extra race pace here to make for exciting events with multiple lead changes.

Race 1 in 2012 had Melandri and Haslam paired for BMW and carving their way through the field to take a the top two steps of the podium. In race two the pair, in reverse order, were on the verge of a repeat performance. Melandri thought he saw a gap to pass his teammate and take the double but drove Haslam wide and in the revocery into Rea's Honda. Haslam crashed taking Melandri with him. Rea took the victory.

Haslam was gracious in the post race itnerviews chalking the crash off as a racing incident and not blaming Melandri. For us it was the start of a 2013 theme to follow; judgement.

The field should be a titely packed one on race day. I have no reason to doubt the BMW riders will be in the podium hunt in both races no matter how they do in Superpole. The field will be tightly packed. Aprilia has the power and the chassis to play BMW's 2012 R1 role in 2013. Sykes fell victum to Melandri and Haslam in R1 last year and took P3. He is not having the same tyre problems he had last year and the Melandri/Davies pair can not just force him to run the wheels off his bike. FIXI Crescent Suzki is more likely to play the 2012 Honda role in 2013 yet Rea can not be discounted by any streatch of the imagination. Finally, Donington Park brings out race pace in bikes and riders. Will the DucAudi's finally break their dismall run and take a podium?

This will be a great SBK race weekend. Where BMW Itlia Goldbet is in the standings on Monday will depend on the judgement Melandri and Davies use on Sunday.

BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK Team - WSBK - Donington - Qualifying Practice 1
Today's track action at British "Donington Park Circuit" was limited due to extremely difficult weather conditions. The fifth round of the 2013 FIM Superbike World Championship started with cold rainy weather as well as stormy winds which caused air and track temperatures of just a few degrees Celsius. Consequently, BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK Team's factory riders Marco Melandri (ITA) and Chaz Davies (GBR) opted - like most of the riders - to just do as many laps as necessary and to spend the rest of the day in the garage. Marco qualified for the provisional first row, finishing third on his BMW S 1000 RR. Chaz set the eighth fastest time.

    BMW Concept Ninety.
90 years of BMW Motorrad, 90 years of two-wheeled history ? hardly another motorcycle manufacturer can boast such a longstanding and successful heritage as BMW. The BMW R 90 S likewise has cause to celebrate: the BMW Motorrad design icon turns 40 this year. As a tribute to both these anniversaries, the BMW Group is presenting a very special model at the Concorso d?Eleganza Villa d?Este 2013: the BMW Concept Ninety. In partnership with the custom bike company Roland Sands Design, the BMW Motorrad design team has come up with an exclusive homage to the BMW R 90 S. Former motorcycle racer Roland Sands and his team are among the most in-demand partners in the custom bike scene. Their design standards and the technical finesse with which they implement their high-class custom and performance parts endow the BMW Concept Ninety with an exclusive and self-assured presence. This cooperative venture elevates both Roland Sands Design and BMW Motorrad Design to a new level.

    The homage BMW

Oh to be a young man again, with a back that would allow me to ride in that position

BMW is on the right track to attract younger riders with this for sure.
To me it is much more pleasing to the eye than all the ant eaters of late.

I LIKE IT TOO! However, I have two problems with it.
    1. I have to figure out how to put a set of 90S bars on it so I can take full advantage of the tank capacity and the riding fun it promises.
    2. How do I pay for the 90s bars, the bike and have money left to ride it.
Life is hard and so we ride.

Marco finished today?s Superpole qualifying in sixth and local hero Chaz put his BMW S 1000 RR onto seventh place on the grid.

Donington Park's front row may be inhabited by the usual residents but new neighbors have moved into row two. More about them in a momemt.

A good result for the BMW Italia Team.
Melandri appears to be back in full form and should be on his game Sunday. His Superpole times incremental improved with each session but not as quickly as the competition. Starting on the outside of Row 2 could work out better than a front row at Donington.

Davies times are more problematic when you look at them. He advanced to the tird round; however his time in that session was slower than Carlos Checas SP2 time that netted him a P10. Both BMW riders have their bikes dialed in with some of the smallest gaps when you look at the Q 1/2 and Fp2 times. It could be a very good weekend for BMW but that will have a lot to do with the new neighbors on Row 2.

Rea has hung out on Row 2 before but for Camier and his Suzuki this is the best start this season and he gets to do it twice. Rea lurked in P9 for SP 1 and 2 then pushed to P4 in the final session. This is an excellent result for Honda. For my money a bit of over achieving. Camier and the FIXI Cresent Suzuki my not be Superpole contenders just yet but they put in a solid performance this round. Comier was P3 in the first, P6 in the sec ond and was just piped by Rea in the final round.

Where BMW is in the Manufacturer's Cup standins will depend on where their riders are in relation to the new row 2 neighbors after turn 3 of each race. For that matter any of the teams must be ahead of them. If you find yourself ahead of them you may be able to break away from the pack and save your tyres in the process. If you are behind these two you will have to duel fiercely to pass. Bikes dueling are great sport to watch but much slower than those that aren't.

DucAudi may find some sunshine on Sunday in England in what has been a absolutely dismal season for them. Much like their competitor Suzuki, Donington is a track coming to them. A good result for them will be just that, a good result and not a sign of their fortunes turning around.

A perfect Turn 3 result has Melandri, Davies and Sykes (in any order) ahead of the new neighbors who are ahead of the Aprilia family. The new neighbors can entertain the Aprilia family and even the DucAudi's all they want. The BMW duo can burn up Sykes' tyres and send him to visit the neighbors just before they stop entertaining when the checkered flag falls.

Party planning is so much fun. Now if all the Donington Park quests will just follow the plan.

    P.S.
I have been watching a great UEFA Champion Leagues Crown match while putting this together. Byer Munich 2 ? 1 over Dortmund.

Not SBK but really good stuff
