    Front Springs

I just finished replacing the fork springs with a set of progressive one piece springs on my 1991 K75. I am amazed that a snap ring is the only thing holding the springs in their proper position inside the slide tubes.
BTW: not an easy job to do alone. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Has anyone else come up with a method of getting the preload set and getting the snap ring back in place?

Put the caliper mounting ears of the slider in a vise with proper soft jaws.

Put the top cap with fill plug installed on top of spacer.

Take a long 1/2" socket extension with the appropriate sized allen socket and put the socket into the fill plug.

You can now push down with one hand on the extension compressing everything to the appropriate height while installing the snap ring with your other hand.

You will need to stand on a stool so that you can use you body weight. Your compressing hand on the extension should be about at your shoulder/neck area.

    Thanks Lee.
I used a long bar clamp from my wood shop to compress the the spring, allowing both hands to insert the the snap ring.
