    Quick question about an 1150gs

What should I hear if anything if I take off the oil filler cap when the bike is running?

It will spray oil everywhere. It will make a mess. The oil may be hot.

    WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?

    I did this too

left the oil fill cap off after adding a qt. It made big chugging sounds like it should and sprayed oil. No harm, just put the cap back on and try to kick yourself in the butt.

It will also sound a lot like if your sightglass blew out.

You will hear it "huffing" as it pushes crankcase air in and out.

AND: Everybody who rides an Oilhead should start their bike and take the cap off at least once - and MEMORIZE that sound. Because that is exactly the same sound you hear when the oil sight glass blows out. And if the sight glass blows out and you stop immediately you have a mess but a still-good engine.

If you take a while to figure out what that funny noise is - pretty soon all of the oil is sloshed/blown out and you have a pretty expensive boat anchor bolted in your bike!!

Re: Sightglass - Good point! Many thanks.
I am familiar with the sound as I forgot to tighten the cap once (distracted by the phone) it is definitely a "huffing sound" 4 sure

I ran my bike with the muffler off and I heard a Harley,
    Now I can't hear anything.

you have an oil filler cap on your muffler? Is that so you can grease your muffler bearings?
