    The new F650GS vs. G650GS

Which bike is the remake of the old F650? Is it the new "G650"? And if so, are the add on farkels from the older bikes going to fit the new "G" model?

I have an R1100RT that I plan on keeping, but I'm looking for a light weight dual sport "thrasher" to have some real fun with. So I'll want to add some goodies like engine guards and hand protectors. I don't want to buy a new "Sportster" and find out there are only three pieces of aftermarket chrome. If you know what I mean.

    Thanks,
    Jay

    The old F650GS = a new G650GS.

It looks like the '05 and up stuff should fit the new G bike.....
The accessory pages should the identical stuff.

    Almost the same!

The new G 650 has an engine built in China. The old engine is a Rotax. I have an 06 F 650 and am happy to have the Rotax engine. It says Rotax on the bottom of the engine. I just hate sending any more money to China. It may be as good but who knows yet?

The motor is black on the G650. That's the only visable difference I've detected.

Anyone ride both to compare the twin versus the G650? Curious to hear your impressions.

This is the G650 Gs - It is made in Lonchin China. Heated Hand Grips and ABS are Standard. BMW says there is no discernible difference in quality between this Loncin-built engine and the Rotax-supplied original

The engine is the same as used in the X Challenge, and X Country.

    3 more HP than old F650GS single. (53 v 50hp)

BMW are not the only company using China for production, so dont panic re quality. It is only the engine that is built there.

I am sure BMW have that area covered.

I had the X-Country with the Rotax built engine. Recently traded it for the F650GS twin. Both were nice engines, but the twin has considerably more power, is smoother and much nicer at highway speeds. What I gave up with the twin is the lighter weight of the X-Country, which was really nice in the dirt. But I don't go much beyond dirt roads or 2-tracks, so the weight isn't a big consideration. There's room on the twin to ride 2-up, too. I love all the farkles available for the twins. Very few for the X-Country, although I'm sure the new G650GS will have gobs.
