    Club Memberships

Here's a question that's come up in discussions with my husband. Do you have to own a BMW to be a member of this club, the RA, local clubs? Do other brand specific clubs require that you own those brands to be a member (HOG, KOG, etc)?

    No.

    the RA, local clubs?
I do not know about the RA or most local clubs, but my last local club had no requirement.

I'm pretty sure that HOG does, since it is a factory-sponsored club in which membership is extended to owners of the brand, but I so not know about other owners groups.

    Welcome to the forum!

Don't know about any of the other clubs, but you don't need to own a BMW to belong to the MOA.

The Airheads club does require that one own or co-own an airhead.

[Although to my knowledge no one actually checks to see if you really have the claimed bike.]

The Harley Owner's Group (HOG) is run by the HD Motor Company and they will ask for a VIN number of your bike when you join. As I recall one gets a free year in HOG with the purchase of a new HD.

The Rider's Association of Triumph (RAT) used to cost about $35 per year (with the first year free upon purchase of a new bike). A few years back the cost requirement was dropped for those owning (must put VIN of qualifying bike on registration form) a Hinkley (i.e., newer bike than made at the old Meridian shop) bike.

I don't recall if one needs a bike to participate in the on-line Triumph RAT forum at:

    Answer to HOG question

ACtually to be a full member of HOG you must own a HD or a Buell, but each full member can have two Associate Members on the same VIN as used for the Full Membership.

The Mid Atlantic Riders do not require BMW ownership. We are an MOA affiliate but we welcome all brands.

We do not require you to own one, but to have an interest in one. Several years ago we had a problem with people joing our club who did not own or have an interest in BMW's. Many also out right did not like BMW's. They only joined for the discount our local dealer offered our club. We were advised by the dealer that it was getting out of control. We now issue cards each year to full members which he must show to get the discount. Works quite well.
The thing about traveling is, you never want it to end and you can't wait to get home.
