I used that very video and made a few of those stoves. I lasts for almost 10 minutes and will boil 12 ounces of water in about 7 minutes. These are very cool stoves that will impress many people when you pull it out of your tank bag and make some hot coco at a park by the side of the road.

yeaaahhh... so, how long does it run? is "heet" the only stuff you can use? If so, where do you guys find it? Or do I go to REI and get some "camp stove" fuel?

Heet is available in almost any gas station nation wide, also truck stops, all auto parts stores and Wally World. This alcohol type stove will also run on rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, or even Everclear. Heet burns the cleanest and does not soot up as the other fuels will (greater purity.) DO NOT use Coleman fuel it will blow.

The down side is alcohol puts out a very cool temperature realitive to other types of more common backpacking stoves. Also you need to accurately judge the amount of fuel needed to warm whatever it is you are cooking as you can't add fuel to a burning or hot stove. It usually takes about 1 to 1.5 oz's of fuel to bring 2 cups of water to a boil in calm wind and dependent on the quality of the individual stove. I have a cute little brass one and have made dozens with Boy Scout groups.

One nice advantage is they make 0 noise. Ever notice when solo camping how quiet it gets when you turn off the typical pressurized gas stove?

Point: Heet is an ingredient used as a precuser for meth. Some places won't even sell it anymore.

Looks like wall insulation to me. Heck, would be easy enough to make a couple of these and throw them in your bag.

Looks like insulation fiberglass. The material has to hold the liquid and yet not burn up with the heat. These "stoves" would even make dandy fire starters.

That's why I like the store bought Trangia burner. I can fill it up, cook what I want, extinguish the flame, then, after a short wait for it to cool down, put the o-ring sealed cover on the burner to save any alcohol that happens to be left in the stove. I use it with a click-stand. The whole thing packs up small, stored inside the stuff sack that holds the rest of my cooking gear.
