You wouldn't believe how many times I've seen and said that.

Just went back here yesterday.

St Louis should be absolutely ashamed of the condition of this massive and beautiful piece of architecture and history. It makes me mad to see it worse off every time I explore it.



As with a lot of crumbling landmarks, all it would have taken was an adequate roof repair! Hopefully the adjacent mansion will one day (soon) be saved.

There's an old theater in town, here. Part of the roof has caved in and it has been the home of a large flock of pigeons for years. The fire department uses its aerial ladder to check it out and take pictures of the inside. Reportedly, the pigeon droppings are more than three feet deep in places. The city has been discussing what to do about the place for many years. A group was formed to try to rebuild it. Tomorrow they are finally going to start demolition. Some places just get beyond saving.

This cable car station was anything but abandoned during the war. The Serb Army blew the hell out of it as a result.
It is at the top of the mountain overlooking the ancient walled city of Dubrovnik, Croatia.



I had to go up because this is the view looking down from there.




A little closer to home, somewhere east of Seattle is an abandoned gas station overrun with blackberries.
Somehow I found that appropriate.
