The Perkinstown Trail
A very special place in Wisconsin,
It is the starting spot for my northwoods adventures
If time permits, takes some of the side trails off of the Perkinstown ATV trail,
you will be glad you did

It is a wonder to me,
What nature can create . . .
and what a couple of clowns can destroy

The southern start of the Perkinstown Trail
is a few miles from Medford, Wisconsin

—Tombstone Pizza
What do you want on your tombstone?
When the Simek brothers, owners of the Tombstone Tap in Medford, Wisconsin,
started making pizzas in 1962,
they were simply looking for a gimmick to pull customers into their tavern
located across from the cemetery.
By 1984 Tombstone was one of the three largest frozen pizza manufacturers in the country
Tombstone was acquired by Kraft General Foods in 1986.
I loved the pizza before 1986 pepspizza.com
Medford is the County Seat of Taylor Wisconsin
taken from the Taylor County website,
and describes the Perkinstown Trail
"Taylor County's landscape was gouged-out from ancient rock and soil by the Chippewa Lobe of the Wisconsin glacier and filled with the soil and debris carried by its rushing meltwaters. While the earth's crust has risen 160 feet since its passing, the topography left by the glacier remains. Rivers rush along trenches carved by the ice, conical hills called kames formed by soil deposited by meltwater streams dot the countryside, rolling hills scoured from once towering mountains surround kettle lakes now filled with crystal clear waters."

Randy Nissen has a great looking return route.
This new addition starts near the end of Chad's route in Cornucopia
and goes down to Hwy 70.
This could also be used as an alternate finish to Chad's route
since it runs parallel to it and crosses it a few times.
On the map
Chad's TWT route is in magenta
Randy's route is in red.
Route note:
I rode both routes, but many of the rest of the photos
from highway 70 north to Cornucopia were Randy's route

100 old church in Mason Wisconsin

Below:
Mason railroad depot
Most town on the rails had a depot,
at one time there were upwards of 40,000 RR depots in America,
with only a fraction of that many surviving today
After years of neglect, most depot are not used any more for their original intent,
but are being reclaimed and making a comeback
as community centerpieces.
Just like old churches, it makes my day to find surviving Railroad depots of Wisconsin.
Click on the link for Surviving Wisconsin railroad stations
from St. Paul to Bayfield, WI. this line was used for lumber, minerals, goods, grain and cattle and the mail before the automobile days RR Map
A bonus of the Mason Depot - a ATV trail was next to it on the RR right of way and I explored it a few miles before I decided to return on my TWT adventure

Hi Jim,
I always enjoy looking at your photos. You've got a great eye with a camera. Seemed like it was a perfect time of the year for your trip as well. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Cannonshot and thanks for your and Chad's work on the routes in the GPS file
A question from the TransWisconsinAdventure Trail site
Is there a longer version of the route?
Bryan Much (a.k.a. cannonshot ) used the TWT route and his vast knowledge of Michigan to create a monster route called the Wisconsin - Michigan Dual Sport adventure and its a big loop through Wisconsin and the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan and its 2050 miles long!
