Question Adhesive for rubber to metal

I ordered the rubber piece that sticks to the rear of the fuel tank and seat on K75. I guess it had been around for awhile, as the adhesive is pretty much non existant. It not only won't stick to the tank, but the adhesive peels off the rubber pad, and is not sticky at all. What would you all suggest for adhesive? I have some 3M Plastic Emblem and Trim Adhesive, is there something better? Anything I should stay away from?

    Contact Cement?

Not exactly familiar with the piece you're talking about but I use Contact Cement on the Knee bumpers on the side of my Triumph tank and they're not going anywhere.

I don't know of anything better than 3M (yellow monkey snot) Weatherstrip and Trim Adhesive. I buy it in the big tubes.

3M also makes a similar product in black color - almost as good but not quite.

3M also makes automotive trim tape - 2 sided rubber based adhesive tape used for.. attaching trim to painted surfaces.

Works great, and can be removed without destroying the paint (if needed.) Any bigger real auto-parts place (the ones mechanics go to) should carry it - or an auto-body supply place. Check your yellow pages.

Ole Yeller, it's the best. It'll also stick a set of cork valve cover gaskets on a Chevy V8.

Before Loctite, smearing some Yellow Peril on a nut after assembly kept it tight. Putting it on the threads before assembly often make it permanent.

This is what I am going with. Doubt I will ever need to remove it, but, have this thing about not ruining painted surfaces. And I usually use screws instead of nails when building stuff. Permanent, but removable!

Thanks for all the good tips, E.
