Most likely he has Touring cases:
-Mike
'02 R1150R
'88 R100RS
But he could have Integral cases:
-Mike
'02 R1150R
'88 R100RS
Or maybe even Krauser or Hepco-Becker cases:
-Mike
'02 R1150R
'88 R100RS
According to BMW the stock cases should be the Integral cases for all 1984 - 1987 R80RT. 1981 thru early 1984 would be the BMW Touring cases and prior to 1981 they would be the Krauser cases.
But as it is an older used bike, all bets are off. Anything could have been substituted by a previous owner. Might even be some Craven's on there.
Show us a picture and we can either be more specific or more confusing. Maybe both at the same time.

from the pictures he has the touring cases
on a web site with the pre-cut reflective stickers it listed the hard cases as system 1,2 or 3
the touring cases by name were not listed, but we figured out what he needed

by the way....those black reflective stickers are pretty neat for night visisbility , cant see them in the day on our cases, bright silver at night by headlights
